Strathclyde Police Top Gay Poll
Stonewall today announced its first annual corporate equality index, rating companies on their anti-discrimination policies, 'visibility' of gay staff, whether or not they have staff gay groups and if the employer placed recruitment adds in the gay press.
Strathclyde Police were named as the top gay friendly employer amongst Policc Forces in the UK. Strathclyde Fire Brigade also received the same number of points.
A spokesman for Strathclyde Police stated, "People of all shapes, sizes, beliefs, faiths, ethnic origins and sexual orientation make up the world we live in. Strathclyde Police does its best to reflect this."
Ben Summerville, Stonewall Chief Executive said, "Gay staff still face a pink plateau in many British workplaces…..for the first time the corporate equality index will give the 1.7 million gay people in the UK workforce, the chance to choose a gay-friendly employer."
Only 3 other Emergency Services reached the top 100, with the British Council named as the top employer.
Gay Police Association Force Coordinator for Strathclyde Police, PC Alan Sneddon stated, "This result goes some way to reassure people in the LGBT community and amongst our LGBT staff that Strathclyde Police have embraced the Diversity message and people should not feel inhibited about their sexual orientation. The GPA are actively involved within the Force and we are one of the few Forces in the UK to have a monthly drop-in for gay staff."
